Changing soiled diapers promptly helps prevent UTI. UTI occurs when bacteria get into the bladder through urethra. When bacteria stay long enough to attach to the bladder wall, infection occurs. In girls, the urethra is short and straight, and the opening is close to the anal opening. There are plenty of bacteria in a dirty diaper which may lead to UTI.
